All skin types have certain advantages and disadvantages. With dry skin, the downside is the fact that this skin type is the most prone to wrinkles and lines. The good news is, however, for people who have dry skin is the fact that it is not all that prone to break outs of acne. Because there is lack of oil in the skin, clogging of pores is less likely to happen.

Dry skin is characterized by roughness and tightness. There will also be flakes on the skin. This is especially seen on the face as this is the area most exposed to the sun. Skins on the shins, the hands, and the sides of the abdomen are also prone to dryness. In hot weather, it often peels off while cold weather tightens it up.

Genes being the culprit

Still, having dry skin can be really frustrating as some skins may crack because of the extreme dryness and there is actually nothing that we can do about it as it is inherited. All people and dermatologists can do is to control the dryness as much as they can.

Ichthyosis is the term used by skin experts for dry skin that is inherited while xerosis or asteatosis is the drying of skin in the later stages of life.

Although it is largely genetics, dry skin is often controlled through the use of moisturizers. This is actually one of the few essentials of skin care for all skin types but very crucial when it comes to people with dry skins. It helps the skin maintain its suppleness and moisture.

Choosing a moisturizer

When buying a moisturizer, the first thing that you should ask about the product is made for those with dry skin. Remember that moisturizers are used by all skin types. The formulation of each kind however will depend on the skin type for which it is made. It is important then that you buy a moisturizer that is manufactured specifically for the needs of a dry skin.

Vaselines and petrolatum are some of the most effective moisturizers in the market. They are however not often used especially on the face because both tend to be greasy on the skin.

Another are ointments, which like petrolatum, are also oil-based; moisturizing creams which contain oil and water; and lotions, which are the most popular because it can absorb quickly.br

When it comes to looking after our skin, we all want to use the top skin care products. However, chances are most of us are not using a good effective cream or lotion. Not enough consumers pay attention to the ingredients of the creams they apply to their skin. Most companies in the cosmetic industry are more concerned with making money than they are at using safe effective ingredients. Many of the so-called top skin care products use ingredients that are cheap and ineffective. Let’s face it; the cheaper it is to make a product the more profit the companies can make. One cheap ingredient that is frequently used is mineral oil. Mineral oil is a gasoline distillation byproduct. There is nothing natural about this particular ingredient. It will make the skin feel soft but eventually it will cause it to dry out. In addition, it can clog your pores, which will lead to acne breakouts. Avoid any products that use this ingredient. It is just not good for your skin. However, several natural essential oils are excellent moisturizers. They penetrate several layers of skin and help to moisturize from the inside out. The top skin care products should contain natural oils such as Babassu oil, avocado oil, macadamia oil or grapeseed oil. From an effectiveness and safety point of view, the top skin care products are ones that use specific natural ingredients that help to repair damaged skin cells and to restore the skin to a healthy look and feel. Your skin has several very important proteins that help it look and feel youthful. However, as you age the body stops producing these proteins known as collagen and elastin. Thankfully, there are specific natural substances that help to stimulate the re-growth of these vital proteins. Let us have a look at one of these natural ingredients that the top skin care products should be using. The loss of collagen and elastin is the primary cause of lines and wrinkles forming on your skin. However, Cynergy TK is a substance that will help to stimulate the re-production of the vital skin proteins you need for healthy looking and feeling skin. If you would like more information on the natural substances that the top skin care products should be using then please visit my website today.br

With the birth of the metrosexuals, men are increasingly made aware of their appearances. In fact, some women even complain that their boyfriends now spend more time at the mirror than they do.

One of the booming industries brought on by the metrosexual phenomena is the skin care industry especially those that focus on men. The industry has become so big that cosmetic and skin care lines that only catered to women have started to also develop skin care products for men.

There are now astringents and lotions for men. Some companies have even developed facial wash for men, a skin care staple that men would not have bought a decade ago.

Below are some of the products that have captured the interest and fancy of the male population.

Mask it!

Who would have thought that women will see the day when men will go to sleep with clay or mud all over their face? This however is prevalent in these times, as men have finally realized the advantages of deep cleaning his pores to prevent pimples and acne from settling in. The Anthony Logistics Deep Pore Cleansing Clay, which costs about $22 in the market, is one of the best in the line. It combines the properties of flowers with vitamins and purified clay to help the skin absorb excess oils, remove impurities and toxins as well as tighten the pores.

Moisturize it

Men also use moisturizers. As far-fetched as it seems, men also need moisturizers to help keep their skin supple and soft. Moisturizers, as women know, can prevent visible signs of aging by keeping the skins natural oils.

This is especially true with men who have dry skins. One of the products in the market that comes highly recommended is the Clinique Maximum Hydrator for Men, which will cost them about $26. It can be pretty expensive but it sure does the job.

Scrub it

To take care of the skin, one needs to get rid of dead skin cells, which may clog the pores or combine with dirt and grime. One of the essentials of exfoliating, is the T-Pur Face Purifying Scrub for Men, which is manufactured by Biotherm. Costing about $15 each, the scrub helps cleanse the skin.

Be careful though and make sure that the scrub is not so abrasive on your skin. Too much scrubbing can irritate the skin and worsen the problem./pbr

bNormal Skin/b

To Maintain Sebum Balance and Optimize Skin Health and Radiance
Normal skin is characterized by a proper amount of natural oil (sebum) being secreted on the skins surface to act as a protective coating. It is also characterized by its smooth texture, even color, and excellent elasticity. Pores are nearly invisible and there is no tightness or flaking. Preserve this precious resource by using gentle cleansers and moisturizers that help to protect, hydrate and maintain the skins delicate balance.

bOily Skin/b

To Control Hypersecretion of Sebum and Improve Skin Balance
Oily skin is characterized by excessive activity of the sebaceous glands, resulting in a excess of the natural oil (sebum) that gives the skin an unpleasant shiny look. The trouble with oily skin starts when excessive excessive sebum production begins to build and harden, clogging pores and dulling skin. This can result in acne and other skin problems. A mistake that many people with oily skin make is to use drying cleansers and topical applications and to reject the use of moisturizers. However, this actually makes the problem worse! Sensing your skins dryness, your body will actually produce more oil, in a vicious cycle. The solution is to use cleansers and toners designed for oily skin, as well as non-oily moisturizers. Proper hydration will actually cue your body to produce less oil.

bCombination Skin/b

To Maintain Sebum Balance and Optimize Skin Health and Radiance
A combination skin type shows both oily areas (such as forehead, nose, and chin) and dryness in other areas. For this skin type, focus on supplementing the lack of sebum on the dry areas while moderating the excess where needed.

bSensitive skin/b

To Reduce Sensitivity and Strengthen Sensitive Skin
This skin type runs the gamut from dry skin that is thin and vulnerable due to a lack of protective sebum, to more oil-prone skin that becomes easily irritated with cleansing that is too aggressive. The skins sensitivity results from the fragility of epidermal tissue, the imbalance of its ecosystem and sometimes the weakening of its protective hydro-lipid barrier. The reactions of sensitive skin are often unpredictable. In either case, gentle cleansers are required along with the use of toners to maintain the delicate pH balance that sensitive skin requires.

bDry skin/b

To Restore the Skins Natural Protective Barrier
Dry skin has many causes, both environmental and physiological. The most obvious and easily remedied is a lack of moisture near the surface of the skin, which can be the result of harsh soaps and skin treatments which damage surface integrity. Dry skin can also be caused by the under-production of sebum ? a substance which helps skin hold in moisture ? by sebaceous glands just beneath the skins surface. Its important not to use harsh cleansers that will increase dryness and possible irritation, and to find a moisturizer that will keep your skin properly hydrated and nourished. Its important to restore the skins natural balance by providing supplements, hydration and nourishment, in order for the skin to properly perform its natural functions, thus resulting in healthy, more resilient and softer skin.

bMature skin/b

As we age, the sebaceous glands slow production, leaving our skin more vulnerable to environmental factors and to dehydration. In addition, our skins capacity to maintain the elastin and collagen within its connective tissue diminishes, which, along with a thinning of our subcutaneous layer of fatty tissue, results in skin that appears thinner and more translucent. An increased tendency towards dryness makes regular and deep moisturization important. Slowed production of CoQ10 also seems to have an affect on the appearance of wrinkles. It is particularly important to use skin care products that enhance your skins natural immunity, as well as antioxidant-rich products that will help defend against free radicals and other causes of skin aging. Sunscreen is a must!/pbr

Acne Skin Care Basics

Posted in Uncategorized on 02.12.09

br
When you have an acne outbreak, do you know how to take care of your skin? Unknowingly, many people tend to use acne skin care methods that aggravate their present condition further. Take for example the notion that a patient must seriously scrub his face to take away dirt. Is this the correct way for acne skin care? Not quite. Heres the scoop.

First, it is important to understand the cause of acne before knowing what acne skin care measures to use. Acne is neither a direct resul of dirt or uncleanness. However, your acne problems worsen when dirt mixes with sebum and other skin debris to create a mixture which may settle in the pus of the pustules.

Medically speaking, acne is caused by many internal body factors such as a weak immune and digestive system, impaired internal detoxification system, and stress. Outside influences like weather elements, pollutants, humidity and the bacteria thriving on the human skin contribute to aggravate your acne. Ultimately, all these factors may not have effectively produced acne if it were not for the P acnes, which digest excess sebum. The effect results in inflammation, swelling and pain.

It is not easy to pin point the cause of acne on your own. It is best to solicit the help of a dermatologist to help you determine the cause of your acne and to recommend an appropriate acne treatment. Notwithstanding, there are a couple of tips on proper acne skin care that you should be aware of.

The first step to good acne skin care is to minimize the sebum production to a level to sustain normal skin. However, in most cases, to treat acne, more needs to be done.

If skin oiliness persist, it is best to keep the pores open. The principle behind this acne care is to release the clogs in the pores and wash them out. The only way to achieve this is to wash the face with extremely hot water. Repeat this procedure to help repel skin bacteria.

It is also recommended that you do not zealously wash your face with harsh scrubs or cleansers. By doing this, you may only aggravate the severity of your acne. Actually, washing your face gently two times a day is enough.

In terms of acne skin care products, choose the ones that work best best for you. Select the acne care product that gently clears away the oil and dirt without leaving your skin dry and irritated. In fact, ,mild acne care works best for all skin types. This will require some trials and consequently, some errors.

It is best to trust your dermatologist recommendation first. If his recommended product does not work, then shift to other acne skin care products. This way, you are experimenting with acne care products that may suit you best. It is important to note that during your first applications, use small amounts on a small area so that any damage is at best limited.

Also, avoid alcohol-based cleansers as these may only dry out your skin. Dry skin is more vulnerable to serious acne outbreaks. On the other hand, minimize the use of oil-based products as these in themselves may add up to the pre-existing oil content of the skin. At any rate, an acne patient must avoid applying cosmetics, however oil-free they may appear to be.

Proper acne skin care methods can go a long way to help you in your acne problems. Good diet and lifestyle habits are other measures that you can also adopt for better glowing skin. Good luck!br

Natural Skin Care For The Beauty In You

Posted in Uncategorized on 01.12.09

br
Simply put, natural skin care means caring for your skin in a natural and chemical-free way. Natural skin care enables the skin to care for itself (without any assistance from synthetic materials or chemicals). Natural skin care is about indoctrination of good habits on the way you lead your daily life. A lot of natural skin care methods are really the same as those for body care in general.

Lets explore what these natural skin care measures are.

First and foremost, for natural skin care you must drink plenty of water. Several glasses of water should be taken every day to promote healthy skin. Keep in mind, however, that the rule of thumb eight glasses of water a day is not based on actual research. Its so often cited that we assume its based on fact, while it really isnt. The amount of water that you actually need may vary, depending on what you eat. If you enjoy plenty of fruits and vegetables that are naturally high in water content, you wont need to drink as much water during the day. The important thing is that youre getting even water to help your body flush out the toxins in a natural manner. Water aids the general upkeep of the body and promotes good health for all of your organs, including your skin.

Your general daily cleanliness is another inexpensive aspect of natural skin care. Wearing clean clothes, sleeping on clean linens and bathing every day are all important to your good hygiene. If you suffer with problem skin, remember that clean skin is paramount in keeping problems at bay.

The next thing to consider is regular physical exercise. When you exercise, your circulation of blood is naturally increased, your body is naturally cleansed of toxins, and you are healthier. Physical exercise also helps to decrease stress, which is the greatest obstacle to your good health.

Healthy food and eating habits are recommended for natural skin care as well. Some kinds of food (e.g. oily food) are known to cause acne and should be avoided as much as possible. Your diet should be a healthy mix of various nutritious foods. Raw fruits and vegetables are thought to provide freshness to your body and to help in getting rid of body toxins.

Good sleep is beneficial in maintaining good health and overcoming stress. As an organic skin care measure, adequate sleep is helpful in preventing slacking of the skin.

Reducing the amount of stress is another method of natural skin care. Stress leads to overall damage to body and health. Drinking a lot of water, getting a sound sleep and exercising have already been mentioned as stress reducers. Indulging in a warm bubble bath, listening to music and playing your favorite sport are also effective ways of beating stress. Yoga is an additional technique of beating stress; it is fast gaining popularity around the world.

Avoiding unnecessary exposure to the sun (by wearing long sleeved clothes, hat and umbrella) is another natural skin care strategy. Sunscreens are also highly recommended.

You can find information on many homemade and traditional natural skin care methods and products. These natural, easy-to-use methods are quite effective and are typically inexpensive as well.

There are many organic and natural skin care products available on the commercial market. These products include lavender oil, aloe vera and many more, which offer natural benefits without side effects./pbr

Antiaging Skin Care Treatment Information

br
Your individual genetics determine how quickly your skin ages and show signs of aging. Signs of aging skin include fine wrinkles, dry and itchy skin, thinness and transparency of skin and the inability to sweat enough to cool the surface of the skin. There are two types of aging, intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic aging is determined by your genes and is also referred to as the natural aging process. Extrinsic aging is external and is caused by the presence of various environmental factors.

Intrinsic aging factors are inevitable since they are defined by heredity so there is no way to change their natural course. However, extrinsic aging factors can be controlled by your behaviors and habits so as to slow down the aging process and prevent signs of premature aging. Sun exposure, facial expressions, cigarette smoking and even sleeping positions can cause your skin to age and form wrinkles. Gravity also plays a part in aging skin because of its constant pull on our bodies, coupled with the inevitable decline in elasticity in your skin in your 50s, causing effects such as droopy eyelids and jowls.

There are several ways to help aging skin with antiaging skin care treatment. Avoiding the sun and artificial tanning can help to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. Gentle cleansing twice a day and using a moisturizer with a sunscreen of SPF 15 or better can block harmful ultraviolet rays from damaging your skin. Avoiding or quitting cigarettes can halt the biological changes caused by smoking and improve the appearance of your skin. Resting your face on your pillow the same way for years can lead to wrinkles, so changing your position can reduce the likelihood of such fine lines that can be etched into the skin over time.

Finally, healthy living overall is a key factor in slowing down the aging process of your skin. Drinking six to eight glasses of water per day, regular exercise, proper sleep habits and a well-balanced diet will reflect on your skin and slow down the extrinsic aging process. It is also important to take vitamin supplements that contain Vitamin A, B and E to maintain the well-being of your skin and body health.

Aging is inevitable but with the right habits, you can make your skin look its very best at any age.br

Natural Skin Care Using Evening Primrose Oil

br
Most women who have ever suffered from pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) or PMT as it is often known, is well aware of evening primrose oil and how it can be used to modify their symptoms and many husbands are equally aware of its effects in this respect! However, skin care products are not often associated with this oil yet it is used by many women to keep their skin in good condition. Why is this?

The main components of evening primrose oil are gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids that are used by the body in the regulation of several biochemical and hormonal processes such as regulation of the function of your heart, your mood and also the way that your body uses insulin. However, it is also an anti-inflammatory, and that is probably why it offers such a beneficial effect to your skin.

Evening primrose oil can be used to treat eczema and other skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis, both orally and topically. If you use EP capsules to reduce the effects of the menopause, and also suffer from any of these conditions, try opening a capsule and rubbing it on one of the effective areas and then monitor it. You should eventually notice a difference between the treated and untreated areas.

It also moisturizes your skin and keeps it soft, even when exposed to the harsh chemicals found in washing up liquids and other cleaning products. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties are the classic properties needed of a substance to prevent or moderate the inflammatory of the immune system to triggers such as the damage caused by conditions such as acne, promoted mainly by the bacterial infection of the pores of the skin that have been plugged by excess sebum or skin oil

You can rub in evening primrose oil to have the opposite effect and smooth and help clean the pores, and then heal any damage caused by the acne to the skin. In this way scars caused by the pustules can be minimized. When it used on inflammatory skin conditions, it soothes the burning sensation of eczema, and helps to alleviate the redness and itching of that and of acne and psoriasis. The oil has also been found effective in treating various forms of dermatitis, including some severe industrial forms of the condition.

It also offers many other benefits to your skin, including rejuvenating old and dry skin, removing small wrinkles around your mouth and eyes, helping to make your skin feel silky and smooth, removing minor blemishes, helping to smooth and cure acne skin and accelerating the rejuvenation of skin affected by psoriasis.

Although the raw unadulterated oil is most effective, as is that contained within the evening primrose capsules, skin care products that include evening primrose oil as an ingredient are also useful, the efficacy increasing with increasing content of the oil. The unrefined evening primrose oil is an effective moisturizer that helps your skin to look full and fresh, and an added benefit of it being used on acne and other skin conditions is that it helps to heal wounds

Evening primrose oil is an effective skin cleanser and moisturizer that is preferred to any of the proprietary brands that can contain a number of harsh chemicals intended to impart certain properties to the product as opposed to your skin. It is natural skin care at its best.

Skin Care Treatment With The Correct Ph Balance Helps Dry Skin

Posted in Uncategorized on 27.11.09

Author: Gloria MacTaggartbr
Source: isnare.combr
br
The pH (power of hydrogen) factor is a term most of us have heard but which few understand the significance of as it relates to skin care. Calculated on a scale of one to 14, pH refers to the levels of acid or alkaline in a substance. Below seven is acidic, above is alkaline, and seven – the approximate optimum level for the body – is neutral. However, skin has a different pH and to avoid and treat dry skin, it is important to choose natural skin care treatment products that have the proper pH balance.

The pH of normal skin ranges from 4 to 6.5, which is slightly acidic. This acidic environment is referred to as the skins acid mantle. It contains a number of different acids including lactic acid, amino acids and free fatty acids. One of the major functions of the acid mantle is to protect the skin and body from the absorption of bacteria. As bacteria cannot survive in an acidic environment, maintaining the correct level of acidity is vital.

If the acid mantle is disrupted, the skin also becomes more susceptible to damage. Although acid and alkaline are on opposite ends of the spectrum, either disrupts the pH and either can cause dry skin.

Alkaline stronger than pH 8 is very irritating to the skin and, unfortunately, the majority of skin care treatment products and household cleansers are far too alkaline. Most skin care soaps have a pH factor of 9 to 11 and many household cleansers range between 10 and 12. Oven cleaners come in around pH 13, which is why using rubber gloves is recommended. Some skin care treatment products are also too acidic. These products generally fall under the heading of peels and blemish or acne treatments and contain high concentrations of glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid and so on.

When the acid mantle is disrupted by using skin care treatment that is too acid or alkaline, it takes about 14 hours for the skin to get back to normal. However, by that time weve usually used the products again so, in fact, the damage never really gets repaired. The result is apparently permanent dry skin.

Fortunately, the condition is not actually permanent and you can start improving it by reading product labels. Often a label will state the pH or describe the product as pH balanced which is supposed to denote a pH that approximates that of the skin – although, to be certain, I would look for the number, not just the pH balanced designation. Look for skin care treatment products that are between pH 4 and 7 and you will be on your way to preventing and treating dry skin.br
