How To Use An Astringent Skin Toner In Your Skin Care Routine

We are all taught that to have attractive skin we need to first determine what type of skin we have and to properly wash and moisturize our faces accordingly. However, another very important step in maintaining clean, toned skin is to use an astringent skin toner between washing and moisturizing your face.

Astringents are commonly referred to as toners and are basically used to remove oils and tighten the skin. Natural ingredients, such as green tea, witch hazel, calendula, chamomile, yarrow, nettles, sage oil and avocado oil, are the basis for a great number of the most gentle and effective astringents. Sometimes alcohol-based astringents are used to cleanse oily skin, but these can prove to be excessively drying and strip the skin of essential oils it needs for maximum health.

A truly effective astringent skin toner should improve the circulation to skin tissues and cause them to tighten, control surface oil and lower the skin’s pH after cleansing. The toner also prepares your skin by removing all traces of leftover makeup and opening the pores prior to applying moisturizer. You can determine what type of astringent to choose based upon your skin type and needs. An astringent can be used to calm and soothe irritated skin, promote healing and remove excess oils to prevent potential blackheads and blemishes, as well as to firm the skin to minimize the appearance of wrinkles, prevent sagging tissues and improve the appearance of the skin overall,

First, your should wash your face with a gentle cleanser that is suitable for your skin type, whether dry, normal, combination, oily or sensitive. Avoid harsh cleaners or soaps which could strip the skin, especially since you will get that extra cleansing step from applying an astringent. Dry your face with a soft, clean towel, preferably made from natural materials. Use a cotton ball or soft tissue to apply toner to your face with gentle strokes, first on your t-zone and then lightly on your cheeks. Let the astringent dry on the surface of your skin and then apply moisturizer. You will find that your skin seems more receptive to the moisturizer and absorbs it more quickly. Also, using a toner inhibits surface skin oil and prevents breakouts. This three step cleansing process should be done twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Daily use of an astringent skin toner helps to make your skin more clean, clear and healthy. By tightening your skin and removing surface oils and bacteria, you can dramatically improve your complexion.

How good are Bioelements skin care products? Some people that use their products on a regular basis, swear by them. Accordingly to the delineation of the company, the products are formulated to all skin types and are made with natural, botanical ingredients that discourages skin aging and are specifically made for every skin complexion. The Bioelements company claims to be at the cutting edge of research and their products are used by leading esthetitians for professional skin care. Bioelements skin care, initially, was developed to educate professionals. Nowadays, they seem committed to educating everyone on the benefits of a good skin care routine, with campuses all over the country and on demand videos that teaches professionals step-by-step skin care treatments. They appear to put a lot of time and effort into their products. The Bioelements products are available to use at home or in a spa. For people that want to try their local spas, they have a spa locator, by zip code, with individualized skin treatments.Instead of going to a spa, if you want to try skin home treatments, they have a very user friendly interface. For your convenience, they have seven different skin complexions as opposed to the usual four or five. Once you click on your skin type, you will be directed to a screen, divided into recommendations for every product that you may need. They instruct you on which cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen factor, the overnight cream and exfolliant you should be applying. They go into detail, you can pick three problem areas, by asking you to identify any specific area of concern you may have, such as crow’s feet, dark circles, blackheads etc. They also have another screen which contains a further five product recommendations. The website does inspire a feeling of quality and is very informative. But, do we actually need eleven different bottles of products to handle, for example, a dry skin condition? If you want a healthy skin and pay attention to your skin treatment routine as it should, it could be worth giving it a try! In fact, a lot of people are very impressed with the Bioelements product line and accordingly to this individual, who has suffered with acne all her life, their oil free sun protector is excellent. She no longer suffers from pimple outbreaks, caused by other sun protector products.Another individual with a lot of freckles has used the “Fight Aging Chin to Chest” product with amazing results. She claims that, this product is the only one that has managed to fade them to her satisfaction. In fact, they also produce kits for every skin type under their “Great Skin in a Box” line. The Bioelements product line seems to be environmentally friendly, with over 80% of their product line packaged in glass, that is 100% recyclable and by using vegetable ink and paper on their eco-friendly packaging.By committing themselves to a couple charities, the company took their corporate commitments and duties to another level. So, go ahead try it for yourself. Skin Care Myths And Your Beauty Regime

Posted in Health & Fitness on 30.10.09

Author: Jerzy George
Source: articlesbase.com

There are lots of skin care myths out there. Some of them are based upon fact, while others are just plain comical. Have you ever wondered about skin care myths? Below, you will find some of the most outlandish myths out there…and you may even come across one or two that aren’t myths at all. Let’s begin with beloved chocolate. Many people believe that chocolate makes the skin break out. Not only is this a cruel way to think about chocolate, it is also…you guessed it…a myth. The truth is that food doesn’t make your skin break out in any manner. While some people believe that the skin will absorb food, this simply isn’t true. Some things that will make your face break out include: stress, steroids, poor quality skin care creams; or creams that block pores. Now, on to that next myth: tanning. A lot of people believe that tanning will help to clear up acne. This just isn’t the case. In fact, tanning is so bad for your skin…it actually damages your skin more than it helps your skin. The only way that a tan will help to hide your acne is if you burn your skin. Then, the red color from that burn may actually hide any acne scarring. Of course, this will lead to skin cancer, so it’s really not recommended. Speaking of tanning…another great myth is the one that goes something like this: “if I use a stronger sunscreen, I can stay in the sun for a longer period of time.”This, of course, isn’t true. You shouldn’t spend any lengthy amount of time in the sun if you want to avoid skin damage. The best course of action is to use a sunscreen with an ingredient called Parsol. The most important thing is to make sure that the sunscreen you do use has UVB protection included in it. Otherwise, your skin will simply burn. Let’s talk about lips for a moment. There is a rumour floating around out there that it is possible to become addicted to lip balm if you use it too often. Once again, this isn’t true. If you find that you have dry lips often, think about the number of times that you lick them. Licking your lips will cause them to dry out…but lip balm does not cause any kind of lip addiction. See how silly some of these skin myths can be? So, the next time that someone tells you not to eat spicy food because…it will make you break out, tell them that you know better than to believe skin myths. The truth is that knowing all you can about your skin is the only way to protect it. If you aren’t sure about something you heard about skin, make sure to do your research. The good news is that there are lots of great skin resources out there to choose from. When you want to know something about your skin, all you have to do is look for the answer. Skin may seem hard to understand with all of that false information floating around out there, but it’s actually easy to handle if you just pay attention to it.

We are in the age of information where companies have realized the power of keeping their customers informed. Even though this is important, this new informational abundance has its downsides. The infinite supply of skin products and information about all these different treatments – is getting confusing.

The age of information has not only helped companies get “out there”, but it has also created a more informed buyer. The demand of new products is apparent, which is why you can now find organic skin products and skin products for sensitive skin types.

With all this information, how do you know what’s right for your skin? This will take a closer look at which skin care products are best suited for common skin conditions, hoping this will help guide you in the jungle of information.

Skin Treatments for Skin Problems
*Acne products for Acne prone skin: Acne treatments or products are made form a number of ingredients that are specially suited for different skin types. Products based on alcohol are recommended for oily skin because they evaporate quickly and water based solutions are meant to treat normal to dry skin for a moisturizing effect.

When you are looking for a cream to control your acne, there are oil-free creams available that are less greasy and absorb quickly. Creams that contain the secretion of the common garden snail, Helix Aspersa Muller, can of great help when wanting to control the root cause of acne.

*Sensitive Skin Products for Sensitive Skin: Most people will buy products for sensitive skin when they don’t really know what type of skin they have. Most think it is a safe bet, but according to the American Academy of Dermatology, the term ‘sensitive skin’ is coined to refer to any product that isn’t specific about which skin type they treat. Basically, sensitive skin products are a fancy way of saying, “Don’t know what your skin needs? Try this!”

*Anti-aging skin care for Aging Skin: Everyone wants to avoid it, but again is a factor that we all go through. If you want an instant result and are willing to pay the price of pain then cosmetic surgery is a viable option. However, if you are looking for a less painful option and don’t mind subtle results that compound over time, then you can chose from any variety of anti aging skin care products.

The result of skin care product for aging skin is a way of preventing or slowing down the clock and it can even restore that youthful glow, but it is not something that will eradicate all your expression lines.

*Organic skin products for All Skin Types: Nature has been around longer than human skin and has a deeper and more profound understanding of how the natural healing process works. The natural composition of all organic skin products creates an ideal alternative for all ages and skin types. Avoiding products that contain chemicals can help you prevent the havoc they produce on your skin; organic products are therefore always the best solution.

Ulrik Birkkjaer, journalist, spots nature’s gift for healthy skin and helps you find natural skin products for all your skin treatment needs. Acne, aging skin, dry skin care, stretch marks, you name it!

Acne Prone Skin Care Tips – Simple Really is Better

Posted in Health & Fitness on 28.10.09

Author: Erica Jennings
Source: ezinearticles.com

We’ve all heard this free advice from someone in our families when it comes to acne prone skin care: “Wash your face more!” As if. Washing your face more is one of the worst things you can do as part of your acne plan. What about all of those acne skin care products you see at the drug store? Don’t you need to buy those skin products if you hope to control your acne? No. Not at all. In fact, caring for your skin properly is less complicated than you might think.

First, let’s talk about how to wash your face properly. If you have acne, your face is likely inflamed. It has to heal. Rubbing, picking and scratching are obvious ways to keep it from healing. But a less obvious way is to wash your face too much. Soap dries out your skin and irritates acne. Wash cloths and old towels compound the damage.

Here’s what you do… get rid of your normal harsh soaps and alcohol cleansers, and instead use a very mild soap, like Dove, or, better still, a mild non-soap cleanser like Cetaphil. Gently wash your face with your finger tips in a circular motion, using lukewarm water. Rinse well. Pat it dry with a clean soft cotton towel. That’s it. Twice per day. No more. This will minimize your acne because you won’t be irritating and inflaming the skin.

If you have dry skin, put on a thin layer of non-comedogenic moisturizer (read the label!) to sooth your skin. If you have oily skin, using an astringent might just cause your skin to produce more oil, so when you are done washing your face, you really are done.

Now shouldn’t all those acne skin care products be part of your acne plan? Don’t waste your money. The problem with most of these products is that they contain ingredients that irritate your skin and actually make things worse. Avoid any type of exfoliant, especially the dreaded loofah. Avoid acne masks. They irritate your skin just fine, but help your pimples? No way. What about those pore cleansing strips? It sure feels great to see the black guck on them when you rip apart your blackheads, but, unfortunately, you might inflame them, promote infection and turn those blackheads into pimples. What about acne washes that contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfer or other stuff? Forget about them. First, sulfer doesn’t work and never has. Why those products are still out there is a real mystery. When it comes to washes in general, they don’t stay in contact with your skin long enough to do any good. You rinse them right off. So they are simply not worth the trouble.

Save your money and make mild soap, lukewarm water and a nice clean soft cotton towel part of your acne plan. When it comes to acne prone skin care, simple truly is better.

Shrink Clogged Or Enlarged Pores With Effective Skin Care

Posted in Health & Fitness on 27.10.09

Author: Tim Faber
Source: ezinearticles.com

Pores become clogged, enlarged when dirt and oil become trapped leading to inflammation and bacteria. Opening clogged pores and adequately cleaning and irrigating bacteriaallow sensitive face skin to heal and repair – shrinking and reducing the onset of blackheads and fungus. Using skin care formulated to shrink and open clogged pores helps give you smooth clear skin.

Causes of Clogged and Enlarged Pores

Dirt, cosmetics, and some skin products – lotions and creams – become trapped mixing with our natural skin oil. When combined with microscopic yeast particles, bacteria is formed that leads to infection. Though relatively harmless and minor, this infection inflames surrounding tissue and further acts to clog – sometimes creating a “sebum plug”.

Sebum is our naturally occurring oil secreted by the sebaceous glands. If not cleaned – or if trapped by dirt – plugs occur promoting fungus that inflames the opening. Without proper care and exfoliating, pores grow larger creating blackheads, redness and rosacea.

Skin Care to Shrink Enlarged Pores

The most effective products for reducing size and clearing combine several active ingredients that both attack the symptom as well as promote healthy skin renewal.

Pore Minimizers are most successful if they contain active ingredients that one – kill bacteria, two reduce or irrigate oil and dirt, and three, heal and rejuvenate the skin. Emu Oil works well used in a pore minimizer. It is a natural anti-bacterial as well as an anti-inflammatory. It kills bacteria and fungal infections and helps promote healthy skin cell growth.

Alpha Hydroxy Crystals help to gently exfoliate the skin clearing dirt and oil while smoothing and “polishing” the surface. Alpha Hydroxy is a successful ingredient in acne and rosacea products for its properties to slough-off dirt and oiliness while helping to provide mild antiseptic control for facial skin.

Other ingredients such as fruit extracts have been shown to further shrink enlarged pores and provide natural cleaning. When combined with Aloe Vera, Hyaluronic Acid, andJojoba Oil, you get a perfect soothingaction that clears and protects.

The best skin care to shrink enlarged, clogged pores works to defendagainstthe primary symptoms – dirt andoil – while healing and repairing to shrink and normalized large pores.

Winter Facial Skin Care Tips

Posted in Health & Fitness on 27.10.09

Author: Alexander Sviridov
Source: articleage.com

Winter is here and the frost is not only nipping at your nose but the whole face. Fortunately, with a facial skin care routine that meets your exact skin care needs you can be on your way to healthy, radiant skin tone.
YOUR SKIN IS DRY OR SENSITIVE IF IT:
? Stings or burns when skin-care products are used

? Is easily irritated

? Sometimes appears red and inflamed

? Feels itchy, dry, rough and flaky
Facial skin care for dry skin:
Regular bath soaps clean well but are powerfully alkaline and irritating for both dry and sensitive skin. Clear soaps containing glycerin and alcohol may also be too drying. So, as an alternative of soap, dermatologists suggest a soap-free, sensitive skin cleansers. If your skin is very dry or sensitive, you may need to alternate a washable lotion with a sensitive-skin bar. After cleansing dry skin, apply a moisturizer that is light, hypoallergenic, preservative-free, all-purpose and water based. For extremely dry skin, moisturize with petroleum jelly or an oil-based lotion with 20 percent urea. After cleansing sensitive skin, apply a light, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free moisturizer, like Eucerin. To check your tolerance of the product, dab the moisturizer behind your ears for the first few days.
YOUR SKIN IS NORMAL IF IT:
? Is usually smooth and supple

? Is generally clear/blemish-free

? Appears neither dry nor oily
Facial skin care for normal skin:
You’re one of those lucky people whose face can take some abuse and still bounce back, looking fresher than ever. Almost any cleanser (from regular bath soap to sensitive-skin bars) will work for you. If you need a moisturizer ? some people with normal skin don’t! ? choose a light, hypoallergenic, preservative free, all-purpose, water-based moisturizer after washing.
YOUR SKIN IS OILY IF IT:
? Has enlarged pores or blackheads

? Appears shiny and feels greasy
Facial skin care for oily skin:
Regular bath soap, morning and night, is fine for cleansing ? your skin actually benefits from the drying effect of strongly alkaline bath soaps. If necessary, use an astringent pad at midday. Because your skin is naturally oily, you may not need
a moisturizer. But if you do, choose one that’s noncomedogenic (won’t cause acne) and either oil-free or water-based ?Neutrogena or Aveeno, for example.
YOUR SKIN IS COMBINATION IF IT:
? Is oily on your forehead, nose or chin

? Is dry on your cheeks and around your eyes
Facial skin care for combination skin:
Dermatologists recommend one of two cleansing routines for women with combination skin. You can wash with a gentle facial cleanser in the morning and use an alcohol-free astringent on oily areas later in the day. Or wash with a soap-free cleanser on dry areas and with regular bath soap on oily areas. Treat dry patches as dry skin, then apply a water-based or oil-free noncomedogenic moisturizer to your entire face.
Skin care tips for every type of skin:
No matter how oily, dry or sensitive your skin, always clean gently. Use warm (not hot) water and your fingertips (not a wash cloth). Rinse well. Then use a towel to pat (not rub) your face dry. Wash your face no more than once or twice a day. After patting skin dry, apply moisturizer to skin while it’s still damp to ensure that it is absorbed. Unless your moisturizer provides protection from damaging sun rays, consider applying a light sunscreen as well.

Acne Hype, Hope, Help

Posted in Health & Fitness on 26.10.09

Author: Yvonne Finn
Source: articleage.com

The cause (s) of acne is still under debate.
Pimples develop through a very complex process and the pore is blocked when it collapses unto itself.
Since the cause of acne is not fully understood, skin care manufacturers must work half in the dark to find effective acne care treatments.
Some ideas about what causes acne include such things as, hormones, diet, genetics, vitamin deficiency and stress.
Acne affects young and old, teens, men and women of all races.
The outbreaks are painful, annoying and embarrassing.
Teen acne:
Eating lots of chocolate, other sweets or greasy foods does not cause acne.
Poor hygiene does not of itself cause acne.
Although it sometimes seems that boys get acne in a greater proportion that girls do, this situation is reversed when girls get into their 20′s t0 40′S.
Adult acne:
Adult acne affects 25% of adult males and 50% of adult women at some time in their adult lives.
Although the causes of acne in teens or adults, is largely unknown, in adults acne is often attributed to hormonal imbalances.
Get your hormones checked to see if this could be a reason for your acne outbreaks or flare- ups.
Overall the best acne treatments for teens and adults is very much the same.
Follow some general guidelines for keeping the skin clean and find and use acne skin care products and treatments that work for you.
What to do:
Get a dermatologist advice and follow it.
Some things you can do that will help prevent breakouts and handle them when they do happen.
Don’t over-scrub your skin as this can leave the skin dry which will encourage it to produce more oil and clog more pores.
Don’t use alcohol base products, as these will cause the same condition as the drying out of skin above.
Take a shower immediately after exercise or any kind of activity that causes sweating, as this causes the body to heat up and perspiration can encourage bacteria to form on the skin leading to more acne break-outs.
If you can’t shower immediately after exercise use a medicated pad or a clean towel to wipe yourself down as gently and thoroughly as you can.
Remember rough scrubbing isn’t going to make you any cleaner and this may actually irritate existing acne scars and encourage new skin breakouts.
There are acne treatments and products that help to relieve and control this prevalent skin condition.
But as with all treatments, not every product will work universally.
Fortunately, there are almost as many acne skin care products as there are acne sufferers.
You will surely find one that helps with your acne condition.
Above all do not let acne and acne scars inhibit or restrict your enjoyment of your life.
Find acne treatments that work for you and put your best self forward, everyday!
While not all acne treatments work for everyone, here is a line of very effective, natural ingredients and affordable acne skin care products that have been rated very highly by its many users.
